Smithtown Patriots Senior Softball Team Celebrates Opening Day
The Patriots played the Brookhaven Silver Streaks at Flynn Memorial Park.

SMITHTOWN, NY — The Smithtown Patriots, a senior softball team, celebrated their Opening Day on Tuesday, the town announced.
The Patriots played the Brookhaven Silver Streaks at Flynn Memorial Park. The teams drew, as each squad won a game.
Councilman Tom Lohmann wished the team and their opponents from Brookhaven the best of luck, and a memorable opening day as he threw out the first pitch.

"These guys are some of the most fierce athletes I’ve seen play the game," Lohmann said. "Some of whom have played professionally. I love coming to Opening Day and hearing from the home and away teams just how much they love playing at Flynn. It gives me a great sense of pride to witness both our little leagues and our senior leagues enjoy the game on a brand new field!"
The Smithtown Patriots Senior Softball Team is sponsored by the Smithtown Senior Citizens' Department.

Eligible players must be at least 59 by the end of 2023 to join. The team plays double headers in a highly competitive Senior Softball League on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The season starts in May and ends in August. Any interested participants should contact the Smithtown Senior Center at 631-360-7616.
