Smithtown Police Blotter: 2 Men Rob Person Of Necklace At Gunpoint

ALSO: Woman scammed by someone pretending to be from the Suffolk County Police Department; and property stolen from vehicle, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from April 14 through April 20.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • April 19: Robbery (first-degree) was reported on Second Avenue in St. James at 11 p.m. Two men entered the back of a car and displayed what appeared to be a handgun, police said. The duo demanded money and then hit the victim in the face with the gun, causing a cut and bleeding, police said. The person who was attacked had been trying to sell a necklace on Facebook Marketplace, police said.
  • April 18: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Harness Road in Smithtown at 5:01 p.m. Someone stole property from a vehicle, police said. The vehicle had been left unlocked in the driveway, police said.
  • April 14: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Smith Road in Lake Grove at 1:47 p.m. Someone received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Suffolk County Police Department, police said. The scammer told the woman they had warrants, and that she needed to pay to clear the warrants, police said. The woman paid the money by purchasing Amazon cards, police said. She sent all the payments to one person, police said.
