Smithtown Police Blotter: Man Drives With Officer Partially In Car

The officer was thrown from the vehicle and had to go to the hospital, police say. ALSO: Two men stole a generator, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from June 3 through June 9.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • June 8: Kirk Barton, 48, of Nesconset, was driving a green 2009 Infiniti sedan east when he tried to leave the Smith Haven Mall parking lot around noon on June 8 in Lake Grove, police said. Barton hit a parked vehicle, which caused damage to the vehicle, and the parked vehicle then hit a 2011 Lexus, police said. A few minutes later, Barton, who was in possession of crack cocaine, resisted arrest by putting his Infiniti in reverse while an officer was partially inside the Infiniti, police said. Barton then drove forward, causing the officer to be thrown from the Infiniti and onto the pavement, police said. The officer was treated for injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. Barton was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree cause physical injury to officer, one count of second-degree obstruct governmental administration, one count of operator leave scene of property damage accident, and three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
  • June 5: Abimael Laguerre, 23, of Coram, stole a Predator 9500 Watt Inverter generator from Harbor Freight Tools on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack around 4:25 p.m. June 5 while working with another, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny: value of property more than $1,000.
  • June 5: Jordan Guice, 21, of West Babylon, stole a Predator 9500 Watt Inverter generator from Harbor Freight Tools on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack around 4:25 p.m. June 5 while working with another, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny: value of property more than $1,000.
