Smithtown Police Blotter: Man Steals Merchandise From Macy's
ALSO: Two Town of Smithtown residents reported scams that they fell victim to, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from June 9 through June 15.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- June 12: Anthony Person, 56, of Brentwood, stole merchandise from Macy's at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove around 12:20 p.m. May 20, police said. He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny: value of property more than $1,000, police said.
Incidents
- June 12: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Main Street in Smithtown at 3:38 p.m. Someone received a phone call from a scammer claiming to be from PSEG, police said. The scammer told the person they needed to pay a bill, police said. The resident paid the scammer with more than $3K worth of gift cards, police said.
- June 11: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Nesconset Avenue in Nesconset at 2 p.m. A woman called for technology help with her streaming device, but she mistakenly called a scammer, police said. The woman was told to install an app by the scammer, police said. The scammer remotely controlled her devices, exposing sensitive information, police said. The scammer took $1K from the woman's bank through PayPal, police said.
