Smithtown’s Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony: Info
The community event is scheduled for this Monday night. Supervisor Ed Wehrheim hopes the event will help "extinguish antisemitism."
SMITHTOWN, NY — The Town of Smithtown is set to hold its Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, the town wrote. The event will be hosted at Smithtown Town Hall, at 99 W. Main St., Smithtown.
The community-based event is hosted by Supervisor Ed Wehrheim and the Smithtown Town Board, featuring Rabbi Mendel Teldon of Chabad Mid Suffolk, music, latkes, donuts and a special gelt drop, courtesy of the Smithtown Fire Department.
"This year we are encouraging ALL members of our community to join together with our Jewish neighbors, friends and those families with loved ones abroad as we celebrate the Festival of Lights in solidarity," Wehrheim said in a news release. "This ceremony is always such a memorable one, thanks to Rabbi Mendel Teldon, who always inspires unity, hope and love for thy neighbor, using his natural gifts for wisdom and humor. Everyone who has attended the Menorah lighting ceremony each year, always takes the time to share what a memorable experience it truly is. Our hope for this year's celebration is that we can stand side by side as we extinguish antisemitism, and light the night sky with hope for peace both abroad and at home."
