Smithtown Student Runs Fastest Mile For 8th Graders In New York
Andrew Collins competed at the PUMA International Showcase in Staten Island. He is ranked No. 1 in New York and No. 2 nationally.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Andrew Collins, an eighth grader at Great Hollow Middle School, showed why he's the number one runner at his grade level in New York state when he ran the fastest mile of all eighth graders this year at the PUMA International Showcase in Staten Island on Jan. 25, the Smithtown School District announced.
Collins ran a mile at 4:33 (4 minutes and 33 seconds) and is currently ranked No. 1 in New York and No. 2 nationally. He started running on the high school cross-country team this fall, when he made the All-Division team. This winter, he was part of the 4x800m relay team that won the League Championship.
He is set to compete in the National Championship this March.
