LI's Ryan Ufko Scores 2 Points In USA's Bronze Win At Ice Hockey World Juniors: Watch

NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA — Ryan Ufko continued to produce for Team USA in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Ufko, a Smithtown native, scored a goal and notched an assist in USA's 8-7 overtime win over Sweden for the bronze medal on Thursday.
Ufko's goal came less than two minutes into the second period, putting USA up 2-0 at the time. It was the first goal of a wild period in which Sweden outscored USA 5-4, making the match a 5-5 tie entering the third period. Ufko also tallied an assist on USA's final goal of the second period — a score by Chaz Lucius that put USA up 5-3.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the third period, paving the way for Lucius's overtime heroics. It marked Lucius's third goal of the game.
Ufko, a defenseman, had a goal and nine assists in his past five games with the Americans.

Team USA was eliminated in a 6-2 loss to Canada on Wednesday but defeated Sweden for bronze a day later. Canada won gold with its own overtime victory — 3-2 over Czechia — on Thursday.
Ufko, 19, was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the fourth round of the 2021 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
He previously told Patch it felt great being drafted to the Predators.
"It’s every hockey player’s dream to be drafted into the NHL, and that was my dream," Ufko said. "I feel relieved and excited."
Ufko has racked up three goals and 10 assists in 16 games with the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the 2022-23 season so far.
