Stanley Rasanen, Nesconset Native, Dies at 81

Rasanen passed away July 16.

Stanley Allen Rasanen, 81, of Nesconset, died unexpectedly at the home of his daughter in Peterborough, NH on July 16.  Stanley was born in Baraga, MI, the son of Lempi Jouppi and William Rasanen. He lived on Long Island for 61 years with his wife Alice Peterson Rasanen.

He loved orchids, and gardening was one of his greatest passions. He enjoyed trading on the New York stock market, and playing online games like Words-With-Friends and Spider and backgammon. He embraced new technology and adapted to it. He was referred to as "Mr. Fix It" because he could fix anything. He could also move anything, and when questioned how he did it alone, he would reply "by using physics".  He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world together.  He also enjoyed fishing in Michigan and in Canada.

In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by three children, Diane and her husband, Jack Burnett of Peterborough; his sons, Harold Rasanen of Durham, North Carolina and Wayne Rasanen and his wife, Joan of New Port Richey, Florida; three grandchildren, Christal and Ashley Rasanen of Florida and Christopher Burnett of Peterborough.

Services will be held on Monday July 23 at 2 p.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church, 230 Second Avenue in St. James.  The reverend Steven Unger will officiate.

Jellison Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
