State DOT To Close Rte. 347 In Smithtown Overnight Starting Monday
The closures will last from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and are needed for drainage improvements, DOT officials said.

SMITHTOWN, NY — New York State Rte 347 will be closed to traffic in both directions between Rte. 25 and Alexander Avenue in Smithtown on weeknights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting on Monday, Department of Transportation officials said.
The closures are needed to allow the construction of drainage improvements and they are expected to last about one week, weather permitting, according to officials.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto eastbound Rte. 25 and northbound Alexander Avenue, while westbound traffic will be detoured onto southbound Alexander Avenue and westbound Rte. 25, officials said.

Officials are urging motorists to "plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones." Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, and convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in a suspended license, officials said.
