- Incredible teamwork saved a student's life at Accompsett Elementary School in Smithtown. Three friends were eating lunch together on Jan. 17 when one started choking on food. When the others realized their friend was struggling, they ran to the lunch aide, Stacy Unger, who administered the Heimlich maneuver, which helped the student breathe again. (Smithtown Patch)

- Police reported a crime of grand larceny at the LA Fitness in Smithtown. A person left personal belongings inside an unlocked locker in the gym and had the car keys stolen.
