Teen Seriously Injured In St. James Collision: Police

The teen and a friend were riding an electric motorbike when they were hit by a car, police say.

ST. JAMES, NY — A teenager driving an electric motorbike was seriously injured in a St. James collision on Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A 24-year-old man was driving a 2019 Infiniti QX6 eastbound on Middle Country Road when he
tried to make a left turn into a business and struck a Sur-Ron electric motorbike being operated by
Myles Cotten, 13, of St. James, who was on the shoulder traveling westbound on Middle Country Road at 3:34 p.m., police said.

Cotten, and his passenger, a 14-year-old boy, who were not wearing helmets, were thrown from the motorbike, police said.

Cotten was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition, police said. The other boy, a Smithtown resident, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. He was brought to the same hospital.

The Infiniti driver was not injured, police said.

The vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-852-8752.
