Week in Review: New Businesses Opening Locally

 in St. James is expanding its business by opening a dog grooming facility, Smithaven Groomers.

The grooming facility will be located at 810 Middle Country Road and is set to open July 5.

Ronald Coiro, owner of the hospital and the grooming facility, said the creation of the business was based off of client demand.

St. James will soon be the home to a new, unique business – Mancaves. 

“Mancaves is going to be a store that provides man caves for people as well as build man caves for people … [with] anything really cool that has to do with your home,” said owner Dan Silberman. 

Silberman said virtually anything could go in a man cave – a location dedicated to the wants of the man of the household where they could socialize and hang out with friends – from barbecue equipment to pool tables, home theatre equipment and more. The Mancaves owner said the man caves could both be indoors and outdoors.  

While preparing yourselves for summer boating trips, one place you won't be able to get a boat or supplies from is Ultra Boats in St. James.

The store, formerly located at 805 Middle Country Road, left a vacancy at the corner of a shopping center with three other open businesses – Island School & Art Supply, East End Interiors and SuperMoto Italia.

In an effort to sustain the congregation after selling Temple Beth Sholom, Cantor Judy Merrick reached out to First Presbyterian Church to ask if they could share a space to hold religious services.

According to a report in Newsday, the church was quick to share their space, which they already lend to a group of Korean Presbyterians.

Following , Main Street welcomed another Thai restaurant to the neighborhood this past week, as The Lemon Leaf opened its doors on the corner of Main and Landing Avenue.

Nestled next to The Frame Center, The Lemon Leaf - owned by Flushing, Queens resident Xiao Lin - settled into its third location on Long Island, behind Mineola and Carle Place.

“We have only been here for a couple days,” said waitress Jin Ho, “but we have been in the business for almost four years.”

, Smithtown's slice of Cuban cuisine, is temporarily closed as management works on renovating the restaurant on Jericho Turnpike. 

A message on the restaurant's website reads as follows: "Due to a temporary renovation, our restaurant will be closed until further notice. We're sorry for any inconvenience!"

A phone call to the restaurant leads to the same message.

When it comes to choosing a dry cleaner conveniently located near you, owner of Choice Cleaners Ayman Awad believes you shouldn’t have to look any further than your own home or office.

Originally located in a storefront, Awad is wrapping up his fiorst year of taking his dry cleaning business and making it mobile one.

“I want to be able to stand out,” said Awad. “That’s my whole theory to stand out and say what makes my business different than others.”
