Wegmans 1st Long Island Location Announces Opening Date

LAKE GROVE, NY — Wegmans is set to open in Lake Grove — its first location on Long Island — in February, the store announced.

Wegmans Food Markets’ new 100,000 square-foot store, located at 3270 Middle Country Road, is set to open 9 a.m. Feb. 26.

The market is hiring for full- and part-time positions across the store — including sushi, pizza, prepared foods, deli and charcuterie, cheese, seafood, bakery, and front end.

"We have been actively hiring and training new employees and are seeking more enthusiastic candidates to complete our team before opening day," store manager Dawn Cooper said in a news release. "The construction of the new store is nearly finished, and we are excited to open our doors on February 26 to serve the Lake Grove community."

Wegmans Lake Grove will feature all departments found in other Wegmans locations, including delicious restaurant foods (sushi, pizza, chef-made salads, and sandwiches), an abundant produce department with hundreds of different fruits and vegetables, and a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese options.

Wegmans states that it offers benefits to both full and part-time employees. Employees also receive opportunities for career development and growth, as well as tuition assistance through the company’s employee scholarship program, the store said.

Founded in 1984, the Wegmans Employee Scholarship Program awards tuition assistance to employees who meet specific academic, employment and work-performance criteria. Part-time workers can receive up to $1,500 per year and full-time workers up to $2,200 per year for four years, with no restrictions on the course of study or post-college career path.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a regional supermarket chain with 111 stores located along the East coast. The family company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.
