Pedestrian Dies In Flanders Crash Tuesday Night: Police

The identity of the person killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A pedestrian was struck and killed in Flanders Tuesday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place at about 7:25 p.m.; police received a 911 call of about the individual being hit on Flanders Road near the intersection of Bayview Lane, authorities said.

Southampton Town police patrol units and New York State Police responded. The pedestrian was crossing Flanders Road from south to north and was struck by a southbound vehicle, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, police said.

The Southampton Town Police Department's detective division and the drone unit responded; Flanders Road was closed from 7:30 p.m. until 10:52 p.m. for the investigation, police said.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene by a Flanders Northampton Ambulance Corps paramedic and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where they were pronounced deceased, police said.

Identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said. At this time, no criminality is suspected and no charges were filed, police said.
