Police: Man Drove Drunk Into Oncoming Traffic

Also, police are accusing a Sag Harbor woman of shoplifting from the Bridgehampton TJ Maxx.

The following arrests were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Dec. 23. A criminal charge is an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. 

Southampton

  • A 22-year-old Southampton man was arrested on an outstanding warrant at Town of Southampton Police Headquarters on Dec. 19. According to police, the man was brought in at around 10:30 p.m. after being arrested by New York State Police on a separate charge. The man is accused of stealing a black purse from the Southampton Laundry on County Road 39 back on June 21. He was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor.

  • A 23-year-old Patchogue woman was arrested on an assault charge on Dec. 21. According to police, Fuller was involved in an altercation with another female in the bedroom of a house on Mary’s Lane at around 4:30 a.m. when she allegedly punched her in the face, causing redness, bleeding and swelling. Her nose may have been fractured, police said. She was taken into custody and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Sagaponack

  • Douglas Moore, 44, of Manhattan, was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Dec. 21. According to police, they received a report of an erratic driver heading east on Montauk Highway at around 6:30 p.m. When police located the vehicle, a vintage 1960 Studebaker, it was parked and running in front of Townline BBQ in Sagaponack. Police questioned Moore, who appeared intoxicated, they said. He also failed a field sobriety test. Moore was taken into custody and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as standing in a lane of travel, a violation.

Bridgehampton

  • A Sag Harbor woman was arrested at the Bridgehampton Commons after police said she shoplifted from the TJ Maxx located in the complex on Dec. 16. According to police, the 57-year-old was held by loss prevention employees at TJ Maxx after they observed her removing the anti-theft device from a sweater and putting the garment on beneath her coat at around 4:15 p.m. She was held until police arrived about 45 minutes later, and took her into custody. The woman was charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor.

Noyac

  • Michael Gohring, 63, of Sag Harbor, was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Dec. 20. According to police, Gohring was driving a 2007 Toyota on Stoney Hill Road shortly after 9 p.m. when they observed him tailgating another vehicle, and swerving onto the shoulder and into oncoming traffic. When stopped and questioned at the intersection of Stoney Hill Road and Hillside Avenue, police said they discovered he was intoxicated. Gohring was taken into custody and charged with aggravated DWI, for registering more than .18 blood alcohol level, a misdemeanor. He was also charged with moving lanes unsafely, a violation.
