Here are the top stories today in Southampton:
- A detached structure on the property on on Little Neck Road in Southampton was "fully engulfed and 100 percent destroyed" when the Southampton Fire Department arrived, according to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department. Flames did ignite the main structure but firefighters were able to extinguish those flames and save the main house. No one was believed to be home and no injuries were immediately reported. (Southampton Patch)
- After rear-ending a vehicle in Westhampton Friday night, an off-duty Southampton Town Police officer was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Girardin was placed under arrest, and charged with misdemeanor DWI. “Members of the law enforcement community should be held to a higher standard, so it is disappointing when a member allegedly violates the laws they are sworn to protect,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. - Officers conducting a traffic stop on Peconic Bay Boulevard in Aquebogue determined that the operator of the vehicle, Benjamin J. Lehmann, 30, from Sag Harbor, was under an active order of protection. Police said, the order stipulated that he not possess any firearm, but the officer found him to be in possession of an unloaded 12-gauge double barreled shotgun in violation of the court order. Police arrested Lehmann on charges of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, according to the report. (RiverheadLocal)
