Man Dies After East River Rescue: Police

An unidentified man died after he was pulled out of the East River near 78th Street on Tuesday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – A 39-year-old man died after he was rescued from the East River on Tuesday, police said.

The dramatic scene unfolded along a pedestrian walkway adjacent FDR Drive, near East 78th Street.

The unidentified man was unconscious and unresponsive when he was rescued from the river by police and fire officials. He was transported to Metropolitan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 6 p.m.
