Two Boots Pizza Opens Upper East Side Shop, Completing Comeback

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two Boots is back: the quirky pizzeria opened its eagerly awaited Upper East Side shop on Tuesday, marking a return to the neighborhood after a four-year absence.

The new shop is at 1243 Second Ave., on the northwest corner of East 65th Street. Customers filled the shop for Tuesday's "grand opening," which came eight months after Two Boots first revealed plans for the new location.

The shop is open daily, from noon to 9 p.m., Two Boots spokesperson Roberta Pettit said. As the shop staffs up, it is accepting only in-person and online takeout orders, with delivery to follow starting Monday.

On the menu are all the Cajun-inflected specialty slices made famous at Two Boots' other locations around the city: The Bayou Beast, with shrimp, crawfish and andouille sausage; The Bird, featuring buffalo chicken and blue cheese dressing; The CBGB, with chicken, broccoli, garlic and basil pesto; and a long list of vegan pies.

And as a tribute to Manhattan House, the condo building that contains the new shop, Two Boots is rolling out a new "other-worldly home pie," The Klaatu, topped with wild mushrooms and named for the alien in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" — the sci-fi classic released in 1951, the same year Manhattan House was built.

Two Boots Pizza is a familiar brand on the Upper East Side: the company had a previous location about a mile north, on Second Avenue and East 84th Street, which closed in 2018.

That old shop is now home to Williamsburg Pizza. The new Two Boots was previously occupied by Fellan Florists.
