INWOOD, NY - Two New York City firefighters were hospitalized after battling a large commercial fire in Inwood early Monday morning, authorities said.

Crews responded to the two-alarm fire at 670 Academy St. about 12:15 a.m., an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

More than 100 smoke eaters and 25 units rushed to the scene, the FDNY spokesperson said. A second alarm was triggered about 12:45 a.m. before the fire was placed under control about 1:30 a.m.

The two injured firefighters were taken to an area hospital; their conditions were not available Monday morning, the FDNY spokesperson said. No other injuries were reported.

The blaze originated in a one-story bodega, My Deli Grocery, at 670 Academy St. It spread to an adjacent beauty salon and dentist office, according to ABC7.

The fire damaged all three businesses, the outlet reported.

“Between the fire damage and the water damage, I imagine they were pretty messed up,” the FDNY spokesperson said.
