2 Pedestrians Killed In Inwood Crash Are Identified By Police

Police identified the two pedestrians killed when a car veered off the road in Inwood early Wednesday, including a man who lived steps away.

INWOOD, NY — Police have identified the two pedestrians who were killed early Wednesday when a pair of cars crashed on an Inwood street, sending one careening off of the roadway.

Joel Adames, 31, and David Fernandez, 40, both died following the crash at the corner of Sherman Avenue and 207th Street, police said. Adames lived just a block away on Isham Street, while Fernandez was from the Bronx, police said.

The crash happened around 4 a.m., as a person driving a BMW sedan north along Sherman collided with the driver of a Subaru sedan, who was driving in the opposite direction, police said.

The Subaru then hit two unoccupied parked cars, and careened into the two male pedestrians, police said. An NYPD spokesperson could not say exactly where the men had been standing, though the New York Post reported that they had been struck on the sidewalk.

Adames was rushed to the NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, while Fernandez was taken to Harlem Hospital, but neither could be saved, police said.

Both drivers stayed at the scene, police said. No arrests were immediately announced, but an investigation is ongoing.

Videos posted to the Citizen app showed a huge emergency response at the intersection, while footage published by FOX5 shows multiple crumpled cars, with one appearing to have swerved onto the sidewalk.
