INWOOD, NY - Six people were hospitalized in an apartment building fire that took nearly three hours to control Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The blaze erupted about 6:37 p.m. inside a six-story residential building at 531 West 211 St., a spokesperson from FDNY told Patch.

12 units, 60 fire department members and medics responded to the incident before the fire was quelled about 9:28 p.m., officials said.

Medics transported six people to New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available Wednesday morning.

Two families were provided with emergency housing and financial assistance from the Greater New York Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
