Bus Driver Pepper Sprayed In Unprovoked Washington Heights Attack

A person flagged down a bus near West 162nd Street and blasted the driver with pepper spray, before running away, police said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — An attacker pepper sprayed a bus driver in the face in Washington Heights for no apparent reason, police said on Wednesday.

The bus was cruising around 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 when a person flagged it down near West 162nd Street and Edgecombe Avenue, police said.

The 35-year-old man driving the bus stopped for the person, but upon opening the doors, was hit in the face with pepper spray, video shows. The attacker then fled on a bike westbound on West 162nd Street.

The bus driver suffered burning and irritation and was taken to Columbia Presbyterian in stable condition, police said.
