Cops Release Photos Of Washington Heights Shooting Suspects

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD released photos of suspects wanted in connection with a Washington Heights shooting that killed a 27-year-old man earlier this month, police said.

Alberto Martinez was standing in front of 501 W. 168 St. near the corner of Amsterdam Avenue when he was shot once in the chest, police said. Medics rushed the man to Columbia University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, said police.

Police are trying to identify both men in the photos, and did not specify which suspect pulled the trigger or a potential motive for the shooting. An NYPD investigation into Martinez's shooting is still underway.

Martinez was a resident of Washington Heights, and his last known address was on West 169th Street, police said.

The Oct. 3 shooting was the most recent homicide in a violent year for Upper Manhattan. Nine murders (including Martinez's) have been reported this year in the 33rd and 34th precincts, according to crime statistics as of Oct. 20. The precincts, which patrol the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods, experienced just two murders combined in all of 2018, according to the NYPD data.
