Off-Duty NYPD Officer Shot At After Crash In Wash Heights: Police

Shots were fired at an off-duty officer Wednesday morning after a fender bender happened at West 155th Street and Edgecombe, NYPD said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — An off-duty New York Police Department officer was involved in a car crash Wednesday morning in Washington Heights that led to the other driver firing shots in the cop's direction, police said.

The fender bender happened around 6:45 a.m. at West 155th Street and Edgecombe Avenue, police said.

Moments after the collision, the other driver took out a gun and fired it multiple times at the officer, striking the vehicle, police said.

The off-duty officer was not hit and did not return fire, police said. There were no injuries.

The driver then took off and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
