Jumper With Pellet Gun Rescued From George Washington Bridge

Police arrived on the scene at 10:22 a.m. Friday morning.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, MANHATTAN — The upper level of the George Washington Bridge was closed Friday morning as police swarmed the bridge to help a possible jumper, the NYPD told Patch. The jumper was taken into custody and safely removed from the bridge, police told Patch. Photos from the scene showed a heavy police presence on the bridge. Police arrived on scene around 10:22 a.m. to aid the jumper, police said.

The Port Authority Police Benevolent Association said in a social media post that the jumper had pointed a gun at one of the responding police officers as he attempted to talk the jumper off the ledge.

Officials later told reporters that the jumper had been holding an air gun.

Around 11:30 a.m. the lanes on the upper level of the bridge were reopened for traffic, according to the Port Authority's traffic alerts.
