INWOOD, NY - Local artists are gearing up to make Inwood a bit brighter this holiday season.

Helmed by Art on the Ave NYC, the Inwood Merchant Association and the Northern
Manhattan Arts Alliance, seven vacant storefronts and small businesses around Inwood are set to be transformed into street-facing galleries displaying local artwork.

Dubbed “Connections,” Inwood’s latest installment of the Art on the Ave initiative is curated by Ruthy Valdez and features 28 artists all local to New York City, with the majority hailing from upper Manhattan. You can view a full list of artists here.

“Using the work of local New York artists, we wish to spark a conversation about the concept of connecting,” explained Barbara Anderson, co-founder of Art on the Ave NYC. “From human connection, to connection between like or different ideas, to professional or commercial connection, or anywhere in between, we are excited to see how the artists will interpret this concept.”

The interactive gallery will feature art on Dyckman Street, Broadway and Vermilyea Avenue.

All pieces of art will be available for purchase with 100 percent of proceeds going directly to the artist. Downloadable maps can be found on the Art on the Ave NYC website.

While the Inwood Art on the Ave initiative can be self-guided, an inaugural Gallery Walk will start Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. at Quisqueya Plaza, where participants can walk together to the art locations around Inwood. You can find more information about the walk here.

A reception with refreshments is slated to follow at Pat’e Palo (253 Dyckman St.).

“Connections” will be on display through the end of January.
