Arrest Made 3 Years After Gang Member Shot Dead In Wash Heights: Cops
Alberto Martinez was shot and killed on West 168th Street in 2019 and a suspect was charged this month, police announced Wednesday.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A New Jersey man was arrested three years after a gang member was shot dead in Washington Heights, police announced on Wednesday.
Jerson Acosta Batista, 22, of Patterson, faces a slew of charges that include criminally negligent homicide, attempted robbery, hindering prosecution, and tampering with physical evidence, police said.
The charges stem from the death of Alberto Martinez, 27, who was shot in the chest on on West 168th Street on Oct. 3, 2019, police said.

Martinez, who lived on West 169th Street, later died at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, police said.
Police told the Daily News that Martinez was a member of the feared Trinitarios gang.

Batista was nabbed Oct. 1 after arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport from the Dominican Republic, the Daily News reported.
