Man Dies After Touching 3rd Rail In Wash Heights Train Station: NYPD

A man was found dead early Friday morning on the tracks at West 168th Street train station, police told Patch.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A man was found dead early Friday morning after touching the third rail in a Washington Heights train station, a police spokesperson told Patch.

Officers arrived to find the man dead lying on the third rail, which delivers a significant electric shock when you touch it, police said.

The alert that initially went out on the MTA's twitter is that a person was struck by a train, but there was no collision, police said.

It does not appear that the man was a victim of a crime, police said.
