PHOTOS: Inwood's Fort Tryon Park Transforms For Medieval Festival
This year marked the 35th anniversary of the annual Medieval Festival in Inwood's Fort Tryon Park.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS-INWOOD, NY — Thousands of New Yorkers attended the annual Medieval Festival in Fort Tryon Park this year on Sunday, Sept. 29 — transforming the park's grounds into a Middle Ages market town complete with dramatic tournament fights and jousts.
This year marked the 35th anniversary of the event, which has become both a neighborhood staple and a draw for people from all over the New York City area. The festival is organized each year by a partnership between the Washington Heights & Inwood Development Corporation and the city Parks Department. The festival is one of the city's longest-running annual outdoor events.
Each year the festival attracts thousands of visitors to partake in entertainment such as authentic medieval music and dancing, jester performances, falconry demonstrations and magic shows. The immersive experience also features professions "re-creators" dressed in period garb who interact with guests. Many guests also dress up in their best Medieval outfits.
