Poem For Inwood And The 'A' Train Draws Smiles: Story Of Gratitude
Uptown resident Carla Zanoni recently penned a poem about her beloved Inwood and 'A' train commute for a New York Times contest.

INWOOD, NY — A New York City commute doesn't always feel exactly romantic, but an uptown resident recently penned a poem about her daily ride to and from Inwood.
Titled "Commute," Carla Zanoni wrote about her neighborhood and the 'A' train ride she takes for a submission to the New York Times "Tiny Stories of Gratitude" feature.
Zanoni's poem didn't end up getting selected by the New York Times — but she also posted her poem to a popular uptown community Facebook group — where it received a strong reaction.

"I thought I missed the A train. Plastic yellow seats. Subway singers. Southbound rumble drumbeat signaling Columbus Circle. No looking up, I knew the station. But it was the walk home after the jostle of turnstile, jockeying for seat, jingle of keys at the bottom of bag, winding through the Shangri-la of Inwood at the top of the island, top of the hill, sun setting over the Cloisters, you and me eating Chinese food on the couch with the cat and dog, remembering what a beautiful day it’s been."
In terms of reactions from other uptowners, one person commented "beautiful" underneath the Facebook post.
Zanoni also posted the poem on her Substack, where one person commented, "I feel the gratitude. Thank you for sharing," and another person wrote, "Love it."
