WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Port Authority Police officers rescued a stray, malnourished cat who was found on the George Washington Bridge on Monday, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

Officer Brian Gleason was called to the north walkway of the bridge — which connects Washington Heights and Fort Lee, New Jersey — after contractors working on the bridge noticed the stray. Gleason located the lost cat on a scaffold between the bridge's upper and lower levels, a Port Authority spokesperson said.

Officers and contractors used a snare to trap the stray and place it in a crate. After brining the cat back to Port Authority Police command and giving it food and water, officer Gleason took the stray to the Bergen County Animal Shelter.
