Vespa Rider Dies In Wash Heights Parkway Guardrail Crash: NYPD

The driver was ejected from the moped after swerving into a guardrail, police said. He later died at an area hospital.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY - A Vespa rider died early Sunday after crashing into a guardrail on Henry Hudson Parkway in Washington Heights, authorities said.

The crash took place about 2:28 a.m. near Exit 14, police said.

An initial investigation found that the male driver was operating a 2009 Vespa gas moped southbound on the parkway when he swerved and struck a guardrail in the right lane, police said.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained “severe body trauma,” police said.

Medics rushed the driver to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem where he was later pronounced dead.
