WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY - The cause of a fire that erupted inside a Washington Heights apartment building Friday night remains under investigation, authorities said.

The blaze at 542 West 159th St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue was first reported about 10:26 p.m., fire officials told Patch.

12 units and 60 fire and medical personnel responded to the five-story apartment building, officials said.

The fire was deemed under control less than a half hour later. No injuries were reported.
