Fire In Wash Heights Apartment Building Sends 4 To Hospital: FDNY

A blaze at 286 Fort Washington Ave. sent four people to the hospital Thursday morning, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Four people were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a Washington Heights apartment building Thursday morning, an FDNY spokesperson told Patch.

Firefighters rushed to the six-story building at Fort Washington Avenue and West 172nd Street about 6:20 a.m. the FDNY said.

A fire on the fifth floor was under control by about 7:15 a.m., but four residents sustained non-life-threatening injuries, said the FDNY.

Medics took two injured residents to the Columbia NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital and two to Harlem Hospital, officials said.

FDNY did not specify how the fire started.

The Upper Manhattan building at 286 Fort Washington Ave. is also home to the Washington Heights Urology and a Nocturnal Sleep Medical Group business.
