WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A Washington Heights resident who was part of one of the most successful Latin boy bands in history will share his story in a new HBO documentary series set to come out this month.

"Menudo: Forever Young," is a four-part documentary that chronicles the rise and fall of the iconic Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, which churned out smash hit after smash hit in the eighties.

Washington Heights resident Cesar Abreu will be part of the documentary, who joined the band in 1990.

“We needn’t be defined by our childhood. To revisit this thrilling, creative chapter of our lives in the documentary, which features a handful of my fellow Menudo bandmates, reminded me of the positive impact that the band had not only on the Latin community, but also on the world," Abreu said in a news release.

"While there was limited guidance for us as children by the group’s leadership, I am proud of the adults that we have all become today and am grateful to the film’s artistic team for sharing our stories in such a respectful and sensitive way," he added.

Outside of living uptown, Abreu has had a 16-year dance career for The Metropolitan Opera and performed on multiple national Broadway show tours.

Menudo was first formed in 1977 and launched the careers of international stars Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa.

The band had dozens of members over the decades as different boys were replaced for various reasons.

Over the years, there were allegations of sexual abuse against the band creator and manager Edgardo Diaz by multiple of its members, but Diaz always denied the allegations and was never convicted.

The world premiere will be at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday and then debut on HBO Max on June 23.
