Woman Sexually Assaulted After Hailing Cab In Washington Heights: NYPD

A woman who hailed a cab on Sunday in Washington Heights was attacked by the driver with a knife after he ignored her directions, NYPD said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A Volkswagen driver attacked a woman with a knife and grabbed her groin after offering her a ride on Sunday from Washington Heights to Brooklyn, police said.

The woman, 33, was trying to hail a cab on West 184th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue about 4:45 a.m., when a man in a gray SUV stopped and asked where she was going, police said.

NYPD did not immediately make it clear if the Volkswagen was a for-hire car.

The woman asked to go to Brooklyn, but the driver ignored the GPS directions and they arrived at Yellowstone Boulevard and 62nd Road in Queens about 5:35 a.m., police said.

The driver pulled out a knife and grabbed the woman's groin, police said.

The woman ran out of the car and the man sped off, police said.

The man didn't stab or slash the woman, but she sustained minor injuries to her hands and feet, police said.

The woman was taken to an Elmhurst hospital in stable condition, police added.

NYPD released a sketch Wednesday night of the man wanted in connection to the attack.
