Woman Slashed At Inwood's Fort Tryon Park, Police Say
The woman was hospitalized with deep cuts to her neck after the seemingly random attack.
INWOOD, NY — A woman was slashed in a seemingly random attack while walking through one of Inwood's most popular parks, police said.
The 40-year-old woman was walking in Fort Tryon Park on Monday night around 5:40 when an unknown man approached her from behind and placed his hand over her mouth, police said. The man then slashed the woman twice with an unknown object and fled the scene, police said
Medics rushed the woman to St. Luke's hospital with two deep wounds to her neck and jaw, police said. The woman was admitted to the hospital in stable condition, said police.

Police described the attacker as a man with a heavy build who was seen fleeing the scene wearing a red baseball cap. No arrests have been made and the investigation into the attack is ongoing, police said.
Police did not confirm where specifically in the large park the attack occurred. Fort Tryon Park spans much of Inwood's west side from West 192nd Street to Riverside Drive west of Broadway.
