Schumer: Hillary Should be Next President
Hillary Rodham Clinton hasn't declared herself a candidate yet, but Sen. Schumer has already endorsed her.
Sen. Charles Schumer didn't wait until the presidential election cycle to throw his support behind former senate colleague Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Speaking in Iowa, New York's senior senator said Clinton should take control of the White House once President Obama's second term concludes in January 2017.
"It's time for a woman to be president," the Associated Press reported Schumer said. "And so tonight here in Iowa, and I won't get this opportunity again, I am urging Hillary Clinton to run for president and, when she does, she will have my full and unwavering support."
Clinton has not said if she plans to run for the presidency in 2016.
Clinton campaigned for president in 2008, but lost the Democratic nomination to Obama. The former first lady served in the Senate from January 2001 to January 2009, when she resigned to become President Obama's Secretary of State.
