As part of the new requirements from the New York State Education Department, Lakeland schools will be administering pre and post assessments (tests) throughout the district this week (through Sept. 14). Here is what the Lakeland school district posted on their website:
These assessments are based on the curriculum and the standards for a subject for the current school year, and will be used to determine how much information your child already knows about the course work. Students are not expected to know all of the information on the test and the test results will not be used for grading. Teachers will use the results of the test to help guide their instruction for the school year.
At the end of the school year, the same assessment will be given. This will demonstrate to teachers how much your child has learned for the year.
The information from this testing will not appear on a report card. However, if you are interested in knowing your child's results, you can contact your child's teacher at the end of the school year to explain the results from both the pre and post assessments.
