Car Fire on Hallock's Mill Road Results in No Injuries

Fire, which started in the hood, destroys the car.

A man was driving up the hill on Hallock's Mill Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. today when he saw smoke coming out of the hood of his 1988 Jaguar.

Rodrigo Rivera, 54, of Yorktown, said he was driving for less than five minutes coming back from Brookside, where he dropped off his son when the fire started. He immediately got out of the car and a passing truck driver called the fire department.

No one was injured.

He has had the car for three years and would usually drive it just in town, he said.

Yorktown Fire Department Fire Chief Martin McGannon said the fire originated in the electrical distribution system. The wiring harness heated up enough to go into flames.

The car is not drivable, and it was towed, McGannon said. The insurance company would have to determine if the car is totaled.
