Cluxatawney Henrietta To Predict If There Will Be An Early Spring
At ceremony at Muscoot Farm, the hen will decide whether there will be six more weeks of winter by laying an egg — or not.

SOMERS, NY — Punxsutawney Phil has nothing on Westchester’s own Cluxatawney Henrietta.
While national focus on Groundhog Day is on the Pennsylvania rodent, the folks at Muscoot Farm will be celebrating Feb. 2 with its weather-predicting chicken: Cluxatawney Henrietta.
For the fifth year, Muscoot Farm will celebrate Groundhog Day by relying on Henrietta to predict whether the Hudson Valley will have six more weeks of winter.

At a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Muscoot Farm Manager Jonathon Benjamin will see if Cluxatawney Henrietta lays an egg — signaling an early spring.
“Muscoot Farm loves an homage to any animal and groundhogs are no exception,” he said. “Since we don’t have a groundhog at the farm, Cluxatawney Henrietta has accepted the challenge of being our resident weather-predicting animal.”

County Executive George Latimer said Muscoot Farm has put Westchester County on the map of highly anticipated Groundhog Day celebrations across the state.
“This tradition is a fun way for residents to acknowledge the day,” he said.
The ceremony will take place at an outdoor stage near the activity barn at Muscoot Farm, 51 Route 100.
