Funeral Set for Piotr Seweryn, Homicide Victim

Investigation and the search for the killer continues.

Piotr Seweryn was shot to death while his wife and two children weren't home. While investigation for his murder continues, funeral arrangements have been set.

His wife, Krystyna, who works as a music teacher at Our Montessori School, serving Yorktown and Carmel, found his body in the basement of their home at approximately 1 p.m. on September 15.

Seweryn, 43, ran a car sales business from his home at 3210 Poplar St., and had turned the basement into his office, which had a desk and computer.

The Clark Funeral Home, 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown, is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no wake, as decided by the family, a representative of the funeral home said.

A Mass of Christian burial for Seweryn has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, September 23 at St. Patrick's Church on Moseman Road in Yorktown. Burial arrangements have been announced as private.

Police ruled out suicide and said the man was targeted. There was no sign of a forced entry at the Seweryn home. Yorktown police spokesman Lt. Kevin Soravilla said it appears the killer had a personal motive, and the incident was not a random home invasion or a burglary turned violent.

"We are pretty sure this is no random act of violence," he said.

Police would not comment where the man was shot and how many times, despite reports the man died of a single shot to the head. There is no indication whether police have a suspect for the murder of the married father of two.

Neighbors who knew the family were shocked by the murder and described them as a "normal" and "beautiful" family and quiet people. The couple has two teenage children, a boy and girl, who are students of the Lakeland School District.
