'Historic House Seeks Savior;' Spring Recess; Egg Hunt Rescheduled

Here are five things you need to know today, March 25.

1. Yorktown School in Session Monday and Tuesday

Because of the Feb. 8 and March 8 snow stormes, Yorktown schools will now be open on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26, days that were originally scheduled for spring recess.

2. Lakeland Schools in Spring Receess

Lakeland schools will however be closed for students Monday, March 25 to Friday, March 29. Schools will open on Monday, April 1. The administration building will be open Monday-Wednesday, March 25-27. The offices will be closed Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29

3. Historic House with Cultural and Religious Ties Seeks a Savior

Yorktown resident Jean-Francois de Laperouse writes in his blog on Patch that "an architecturally significant house with deep roots in our area's cultural and spiritual history is facing demolition." This house sits on a hill being sold as “vacant land” across from the Winery on Route 6 in Mohegan Lake. Read more here.

4. Volunteer Adoption Counselors Needed

Recycled Paws Rescue, Inc. is looking for volunteer adoption counselors for the organization's adoption events that are ongoing through the spring and summer. On March 27, they will be holding an Adoption Counselor Orientation. Click here for more details. 

5. Egg Hunt Rescheduled

The Yorktown Easter Egg Hunt at Downing Park on March 23 has been rescheduled for March 30. Field conditions need time to improve, according to town officials.
