Katonah Man Faces DWI Charges After Crashing Into Utility Pole: Police

Yorktown police said the man veered out of his lane and hit a utility pole.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 74-year-old Katonah man was accused of drunken driving after he was in a one-car crash in Yorktown.

The Yorktown Police Department said Stuart Cosgriff Jr., 74, of Katonah, was charged Saturday with driving while intoxicated, first offense, and driving while intoxicated, blood alcohol content 0.08 percent or more, misdemeanors, and fail to maintain lane, a traffic infraction.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, police arrived at a one-car accident that had just happened on Underhill Avenue at the intersection with Route 118.

The officer identified Cosgriff as the driver and said the man didn’t stay in his lane, causing his car to strike a utility pole.

Cosgriff was driving while intoxicated by alcohol, police said.

He was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.

Additional investigation found that Cosgriff had a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more.

He was issued traffic tickets for the charges and released on his own recognizance to a responsible adult.

Cosgriff is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Feb. 16.
