Letter to the Editor: Remembering 9/11
Francis T McVetty looks at what's happening at Ground Zero.

To the Editor:
Sitting back and looking what is happening at "ground zero" gives me much pain. The fact that we have NOT built a building to replace the WTC towers, is outrageous!
Why should it take nine years to start to build something there? Where is the respect for the people that died there? What does this lack of a building show to the rest of the world?

Now we have a further disrespect of those who died there. They want to build a Muslim cultural center there called the Cordoba house. In the history books it is written that "The great mosque at Cordoba was built on the foundation of a Christian cathedral, and when Europeans retook Cordoba in the 13th century they turned the magnificent mosque back into a cathedral."
It may not be clear to those who don't remember history but this is something that the Muslims do when they are victorious over the "infidels." You may have noticed that it is now being called park 51. Change the name now. I do wonder why?

My last thought on ground zero is that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is not the man he pretends to be. When he says that this building is there to promote religoius tollerence and harmony, he certainly hasn't been listening to the American public. He claims that we are not being sensitive to the Muslim community when it comes to this center. I say that he is NOT being at all senstive to the victims of the 9/11 murders.
By building this monstrosity so close to ground zero, it only puts salt in the open wound and does not promote healing. I want the polititions to tell him that this site is is NOT a good idea even though, the building of it is constitutionally protected. Our politicians don't have the guts to say that, that includes our President and the mayor of New York.
Please remember to call September 11, 9/11 and NOT patroits day. 9/11 is exactly like Pearl Harbor December 7. Why wasn't date changed to "patriots day" also? Please say a prayer for those who died on 9/11 and also those of the survivors and families.
