Letters to the Editor

Sylvia Smith and Peter Joseph Domin share their political thoughts.

To the Editor:

Last week Mike Kaplowitz held a press conference where he said, "I promise, as the New York State senator of the 40th District starting on January 1st, there will be no higher priority than bringing and finding the resources from the state of New York, through the Environmental Protection Fund, to bring back Putnam Lake, bring back Lake Carmel and all the other 170 lakes."

While clean lakes are important, I am sure that I am not the only one in the 40th SD who hopes that my state senator will consider other challenges facing our communities, such as the economy, taxes and jobs, as his highest priorities.

To the Editor:

I received a mailer from Jim Borkowski who is running for the 99th NY Assembly seat and was quite disturbed to see that he used Judge in his literature. I know for a fact that it is prohibited on political mailers to use a Judgeship to promote oneself for an elected office. Shame on Mr. Borkowski, he should know this having been a judge.

It has also been reported in Putnam newspapers that he ran on the Working Family Line (ACORN) last time when he ran for Putnam County Sheriff last year.  He's the only Republican to accept their endorsement. It makes me wonder how he can be a Republican and believe in their agenda?

In addition, it was reported by the Journal News recently that he plagiarized entire sections of another candidate's news release which ran verbatim in theWatertown Daily News. I have grave concerns about Mr. Borkowski and his ethics. We do not need someone in office representing us whose ethics will be constantly called into question and will spend his time defending himself rather than fixing the problems we face in this state. I hope Mr. Borkowski steps aside and let's others carry the torch.
