Marcelle T. Caccioppoli of Shrub Oak Dies at 78

The woman was the first female driver education teacher in the state of New York. She is past president of the board of trustees of the John C. Hart Memorial Library and member of the board of directors of Support Connection.

From the Joseph J Smith Funeral Home Inc.: Marcelle T. Caccioppoli, a longtime Shrub Oak resident died on Feb. 12. She was 78.

Caccioppoli was born in New York City on July 23, 1934 and was the daughter of Louis and Josephine Cannizarro Caccioppoli. The woman earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Bridgeport and her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling also from the University of Bridgeport.

She taught health, physical education and driver education at Norwalk High School from 1956-1959 where she was also the Girl's Basketball Varsity Coach. From 1959-1962 she was the health, physical education and driver education teacher at Mother Cabrini High School in NYC.

Caccioppoli was the first female driver education teacher in the state of New York. She went on to be a guidance counselor at Mahopac High School from 1963 until her retirement in 1996.

She was the Founding Chair of the Board of Trustees of Mother Cabrini High School, President of the Board of Directors of the Milton Carpenter Foundation, Past President of the Board of Trustees of the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Yorktown, Member of the Board of Directors of Support Connection, a breast and ovarian cancer support group in Yorktown, Member of the Board of Directors of the Women's Resource Center of Putnam/Northern Westchester Counties.

Caccioppoli is survived by her sister, Joan Glover of Gainesville, FL. She also leaves behind her nieces Marion M. Brooks and Justine Hammond as well as nephews Paul and Louis Brooks, and Joseph, Tom and Rob Glover. Her sister, Justine Brooks died earlier.

Visiting was held at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac and will also be held at Mother Cabrini Shrine, 701 Fort Washington Avenue in Manhattan on Friday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. where at 11 a.m. the Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Mother Cabrini High School, 701 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, NY 10040.
