Mitchell Hardware Store Customers Stock Up on Storm Supplies

Customers buy salt, shovels and batteries from the Mitchell Hardware store in Yorktown.

The impending blizzard that is expected to hit Northern Westchester Friday night had shoppers flock the local hardware stores and stock up on batteries, salt and shovels. 

Snow totals are six to 10 inches in Yorktown and Somers, according to the National Weather Service. 

One Yorktown customer who stopped by Mitchell Hardware store on Commerce Street said he was prepared for the storm – he has a snow blower, a generator, sand for the driveway, batteries, wood for the fireplace and a bottle of Jack Daniels for when he was done clearing the snow.

Ann Calabrese, a Yorktown resident who has lived in town for 43 years, was buying two lanterns from the hardware store on Thursday.

She said she was preparing for the storm by stocking up on food and batteries.

"Whatever storm we have in Yorktown, it seems a transformer always goes out," Calabrese said. 

In addition to the supplies she bought, the woman said her sons are always there to help her and she can rely on them.
