Does Somers High School have the most unique mascot? USA Today has a contest to decide America's most unique mascot and Somers High School is among 255 schools throughout the country – and one of five high school in New York State – in the running for the most unique mascot competition. 3. Yorktown School Budget Discussion

The Yorktown school board of education's budget work session is on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the Mildred E. Strange Middle School cafeteria. Topics will include administration, transportation, debt service and revenue.

4. FEMA Registration Deadline Extended

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, at the request of the State of New York, has approved a 30-day extension for Superstorm Sandy survivors to register for federal disaster assistance.

The new registration deadline in New York is March 29, 2013, which is also the deadline to complete and return low-interest SBA disaster loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Click here for more details.

5. State Officials Present Plans Bear Mountain Parkway Safety Improvements
