Paramedic Stole From Car-Crash Victim In Yorktown: Police

The victim was critically injured in the crash and eventually died, police said.

YORKTOWN, NY — An Ulster County paramedic was accused of stealing from a man who was injured in a car crash and who eventually died.

The Yorktown Police Department said Mark Swanson, 63, of Ellenville, was charged Jan. 27 with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Authorities said, on Jan. 27, Yorktown police received information that personal property was missing from a man who was critically injured in a car crash that occurred Jan. 26 in Yorktown. The man eventually died from his injuries, police said.

A detective traced one of the missing items — an electronic communication device — to a residence in Ulster County.

Further investigation found that a paramedic who responded to the accident and treated the victim lives at that residence.

Search warrants were executed Jan. 27 at the Ulster County home in which Swanson lives, and the electronic communication device was found there, police said.

Swanson was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department.

He was processed and released on his own recognizance to appear for arraignment in Yorktown Justice Court Feb. 16.
